Generous staff from a Shrewsbury accountancy firm have donated over £3,000 to a vital local charity on their doorstep.
The team from Dyke Yaxley, Chartered Accountants, in Old Potts Way, chooses a good cause to support each year and this year’s beneficiary is the Severn Hospice.
Jackie Young, who leads the charity fundraising team, said: “We set ourselves a target of £2,000 so to have raised just over £3,100 is a huge achievement for everyone involved.
“We always aim to select a charity that plays a key role in the local community, as it’s always fantastic to be able to see where the money is being put to good use.”
Managing Director, Laurie Riley, officially presented the cheque to Mike Perry from the Severn Hospice at the Company’s headquarters.
The money was raised through a variety of events, including a girls v boys netball match, a quiz night, Question of Sport night, poker night, cake sale, cricket evening auction and a Christmas card donation board.
“We also took part in a badminton marathon, raffled a giant Easter egg and organised a Six Nations prediction sweep and a Grand National sweep too,” said Jackie.
“Everyone is always so supportive of our efforts and we’d like to thank everyone who attended our events or dug deep to make donations towards our grand total.”
This year’s success follows hot on the heels of another great effort last year when the Dyke Yaxley Charity Team donated £3,700 to the Shropshire Down’s Syndrome Association. The Company also sponsors several local sporting events and arranges clothes collections for charity shops.
