Award success for team DY!

We are celebrating after being recognised for our impressive standards of wellbeing in the workplace.

Team DY scooped the Wellbeing in the Workplace title at this year’s Shropshire Chamber Business Awards and received the trophy at a glittering ceremony at The International Centre, in Telford.

Our MD, Marie Bramwell said the recognition was a wonderful reflection of the team’s efforts and their approach to creating a positive and nurturing working environment.

“Looking after the welfare of our staff has been a key part of our culture from the very beginning – it’s simply what we do here.”

Natasha Fox, from our HR team led the award application together with Jackie Young from our Marketing team. Natasha said their presentation to the independent judging panel included case studies from some of the individual employees who had received support who had given their permission to share their stories.

Natasha said: “So much of the help our staff receive goes on behind the scenes. Our top-down approach means that Directors, Line Managers, and Human Resources are involved with providing support without the wider business being aware. This gives the employee peace of mind and support is provided quickly.”

The category criteria we were judged on was for companies which recognise the importance of supporting both the physical and mental wellbeing of staff, including:

  • Evidence that health and wellbeing of employees is embedded in business culture
  • Training to recognise and address ‘hidden’ issues such as mental-health and stress
  • Examples of robust wellbeing policies and their impact on the workforce, and wider business
  • Commitment to flexible working and healthy work-life balance
  • Response to challenges of changing economy such as home working

The awards are known as Shropshire’s business “Oscars” and they have become a key date in the diary for firms from all over the county.

Although the awards are organised by Shropshire Chamber of Commerce, shortlisting and judging of the awards is carried out by teams of independent business people, and category sponsors.

Ruth Ross, Shropshire Chamber of Commerce’s chief executive, said: “Our awards night is now in its 23rd year. It is always a fantastic opportunity to showcase our brilliant business community – and this year was no exception.”
